Saturday, January 21, 2012 – Oyster Creek Generating Station Party, Dolce Seaview Resort in Galloway Township, NJ.

I was a little nervous while driving down to the Seaview Resort, since we had a good amount of snow/sleet, I was hoping it would not hinder the employees/guests from Oyster Creek from heading to the holiday party.  Once I was set up and the guests started to arrive for cocktail hour, I saw my worries were all for not.  We had a good size crowd of about 225+ guests, and they came ready to party!

After cocktail hour a few slow dances and dinner, we kicked off the night in a fun way.  I started by inviting employees up to the center of the dance floor based on tenure with the Oyster Creek – 30 years, 25 years and so on down to 5 years and then finally everyone.

So at that point all the employees were on the dance floor together, we had people taking pictures giving hugs, it was great.  Then we invited all of the non-employees (Guests +1) to make a big circle around the employees.  Once everyone was in place I had them introduce themselves, shake hands, give a hug, whatever they wanted to the people on the left and right of them.  At this point everyone in the room is on the dance floor so I kicked off the party to “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO.  We played through a heavy party set which included “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5, “We Found Love”  by Rihanna & Calvin Harris, “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO, “Yeah 3X” by Chris Brown and “You Make Me Feel” by Cobra Starship.

The party continued with a great dance floor fueled by many classic requests like “Living on a Prayer”, “I Will Survive”, “Burning Down the House”, and “Respect”.  The guests danced to a few partnered dances with Salsa, Swing, The Hustle, and The Cha-Cha.  We also had some Audience Participation dances with the Cha-Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, The Electric Slide (done to “Bad Romance”), and a huge Conga Line (complete with maracas, leis, and sunglasses).

After all this partying, the guests needed a quick break, which is when Marita (Host) and Russell (Management) raffled off a few nice door prices, as well as picked the winners of the Company 50/50 (proceeds went to a cancer treatment charity).  We then got the party moving again filling the dance floor with some more new music, a Disco set, a 90’s Hip-Hot Set, and the finale to “The Time (Dirty Bit)” by Black Eyed Peas.  The Guests were excited to find out the party was not stopping here but that the Management at Oyster Creek had arraigned for Shuttles to take them the 8 miles to Atlantic City, and much later back to the Seaview where most of them were staying.

It was a great party, the guests were so much fun.  Thanks to Marita, Russell, and John from the Oyster Creek for hosting the party and having me DJ.  Thanks to Anna from the party for being my dance partner all night.  Thanks to the staff at the Seaview for the great food and being so accommodating.  I can’t wait to work with you all again!

Schlesinger Associates Holiday Party – Firehouse Eatery& Pub, Rahway, NJ | 12.09.2011

Wow! What a night. This is without a doubt my favorite Holiday event of the year, and this is only my second straight year with this party. Schlesinger has a completely different take on the typical Holiday Party, choosing a theme and running with it to create something very elaborate. I was wondering how they could top last year’s Wizard of Oz theme (which saw a nearly complete reenactment of the movie with all the characters in costume), and they certainly did with a “Super Friends” theme. A giant banner hung over the room that read, “Schlesinger Hall of Justice!”, and every table was adorned with every possible piece of superhero memorabilia the party planners could locate. Superman and Batman-branded candies that I didn’t even know still existed!

They followed up with another brilliant skit, several employees participating in costume (with scripts and dialogue and music for me to coordinate as well!), and had the place rolling with laughter. They certainly know how to create a great vibe for a party, because after dinner and the skit ended, they got up on the dance floor and did not come off for 3 straight hours. It’s treat for any DJ to be a part of this event, and I’m already looking forward to next year!

22nd Annual Festival of Trees

You may not know it but Elite DJ’s see all types of events. Obviously weddings, sweet sixteen’s, proms, so on and so forth. But every now and again we get the opportunity to DJ charitable events. Well, this past Tuesday night happened to be one of those great opportunities.

This was the 22nd Annual Festival of Trees. Without too much detail, it pretty much is an event where all the money made is evenly divided up and donated to all the participating charities. There were over 600 attendees and 150 silent auction and raffle prizes.

I had been coordinating with my contact for about a month now. I was told there was a man named Lou who was going to be hosting the night for the first three hours. I had no argument there. I’m sure he has experience in talking on a microphone and hosting parties, but if not I could always jump in to help him. When I met this Lou, I introduced myself and shook hands and he told me his name was Lou Russo. WOW! I was getting the opportunity to work with Lou from Lou and Liz in the Morning on 94.3 the Point. I can’t say enough about how cool of a man he was. We told jokes all night and talked about our experiences in our different fields of entertainment.

I never got to get people on the dance floor because of the jam packed schedule of performances by the students from Step in the Right Direction Dance School and also Hawkswood School Choir and Memorial School Choir. But I was able to add my own touch to the night by playing upbeat and new music after each prize winner and between the stellar performances.

All and all, it was an awesome night! Tons of money raised and got to meet and make friends with some amazing people including “THE” Lou Russo ha ha.
