Kim & Matthew at The Lobster Shanty

This past Friday, I had the pleasure of working with several members of the Elite Staff at the Lobster Shanty in Point Pleasant, to cap off Kim and Matt’s special day. After having their ceremony at St. Denis Church in Brielle, and pictures just up the road on the beach, Phil Walsh and I got the party rolling early and often. With Carrie Roberts and Lynn Monaco of Elite Digital Images taking pictures, there wasn’t a single moment missed for our Bride and Groom, with guests singing “Shout!” You could practically feel there was an overall upbeat mood in the air! As first course was served, the groom and several of his friends began to banter by the bar, when one of his friends approached Elite videographer and Emcee, Chris Monaco to request the song “How Bizarre” by OMC. Matt seemed to think the idea was absurd, but allowed the antics to proceed. Phil, Chris and I all continued to laugh over the “bizarre” request. As dinner was served, there was an overall buzz in our harbor backdropped reception hall, as though guests were anxious to get out of their seats. Here was Phil and my chance to play the groom’s friends request! We cued up the OMC hit, and we looked around for the groom and his friends. After a moment of searching, we spotted Matt leading a conga line of his friends out of the Elite Photo Booth, draped in leprechaun hats, pig tail wigs, and maracas singing “How bizarre, how bizarre, how bizarre!” It made for a great moment on film and from the camera, and one that I’m sure Matt, AND Kim will not soon forget. Though Kim chose not to partake in the shenanigans, you could truly see that she had a smile on her face that said “This is why i married this guy, because he can make me smile and laugh”. I wish Matt and Kim all the best in their future endeavors, and many years of happy marriage together!

In addition to my weekly blogs I have decided to also publish a monthly blog to help brides and grooms who are in the planning process. So wish me luck and feel free to ask me to blog about a certain topics, it would be my pleasure… in the words of The Joker ” and here we go…”

In early stages of planning a wedding most brides and grooms get swept up in the excitement. Shortly after that most couples start looking for help because they have never planned a wedding before. I have put together a few things to help you.

First a great thing to do is to search your banquet hall or halls you are interested on YouTube. Lots of wedding professionals including Elite do Vlogs from there events. This give you a chance to see banquet halls during an actually events.

Use websites like Weddingwire & The Knot to your advantage. You will find other couples on there that are planning or have already planned their wedding. “Quality Wedding Entertainment! The Difference And Why!” is a great blog about what couples had to say about their wedding entertainment after the big day was over. Please take a look at it, you will be surprised by some of the statistics.

We are now in the age of technology and all your wedding professionals should have their own website. We have actually taking it a step further and now provide Online Planning and Web Conferencing to all Elite clients.

These are just a few things that can help you out. It’s always good to set appointments to see vendors work or see them at a live showcase. Visit their office, meet the staff, and build a rapport with them. You are going to spend the biggest day of you life with your these people, so make sure they are friendly, experienced, reputable, and reliable.

Elite has been in business for 20+ years. Our DJ’sPhotographer’s, and Videographer’s are constantly raising the bar when it comes to customer service, quality, and talent. We are here to help from start to finish so please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.

Two Days Worth of Awesome Bride & Grooms

You don’t always get to work with a Bride & Groom that you click with, but somehow this weekend I had two in a row!!

Saturday – Kirsten & J.R. – Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Branchburg, NJ

Kirsten & J.R., are two of the most down to earth people you will ever meet.  They are so friendly and fun to be around and both always have a smile on their face.  DJing their wedding at Neshanic Valley Golf Course was so much fun.

They had a beautiful day, and were able to take full advantage of the deck and their guests loved it.  They also had a photo booth which for most of the night had a line out the door with people wanting to take pictures in it.  Kirsten treated all the guests to Ice cold bottles of Stewarts Root Beer, which was so perfect on a summer’s day.  Kirsten is an Alumnus of the Virginia Tech Hokies, so she and her fellow Hokies performed the “Hokey Pokey” of the guests. J.R.’s Groomsmen were able to arrange for the township’s Fire Department to bring one of the Fire Trucks down to the banquet hall in order for the Kirsten & J.R. and their Bridal Party to take pictures on.

Kirsten & J.R. also did something special for some of their married friends & family, we would play those particular guests Wedding Song and have the couple come up and dance to it.

Some of the special dedications were:

Unforgettable” – Nat King Cole for Lindsay and Sean Dugan’s Wedding Song

Dig” – Incubus for Chris and Morgan Misiur’s Wedding Song

At Last” – Etta James for Karen and Gabe Adam’s Wedding Song

You Are The Best Thing” – Ray LaMontagne for Steve and Katie Gillberg’s Wedding Song

Love Can Make You Happy” – Mercy for Kirsten’s Parent’s Wedding Song

Lucky” – Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat for Heather and Mike Mastroserio’s Wedding Song

You Are The Sunshine Of My Life” – Stevie Wonder for the Moran’s Wedding Song

There were lots of great moments throughout the evening as well as lots of fun, laughter, and dancing.  All of the guests including myself and Jim Wilson, our music mixer for the wedding, had an awesome time.

Sunday – Amelia & Greg – The Palace in Somerset, NJ

Amelia & Greg are two very loving people, which was more than evident at their Wedding Reception due to way their Friends and Family just gravitated to them through the night.  To top it off they are both music lovers, which I saw first hand when I met them at their home and saw their immense Vinyl collection. (May have been bigger than mine!!) We had a lot of fun discussing music and planning out the play lists for the evening, and their guests enjoyed the music selections and danced the night away.

One thing that I thought was impressive was that Greg’s Best Man was his Grandfather, and he really was Greg’s best friend, it showed a lot of character and was very touching.  We had lots of time to dance, and the guests took advantage of every second.

Some of the fun songs we partied to were:

Do I Do” – Stevie Wonder

Never Too Much” – Luther Vandross

Wobble” – VIC

Show Me Love” – Steve Angello & Laidback Luke ft  Robin S

Pump Up the Jam” – Technotronic

As well as a plethora of dance songs both fast and slow.  Greg and Amelia shared a few special dedications to each other and their parents.  They also had tons of college friends from Rutgers (Greg) and Trenton State (Amelia) who partied with them to some classics from when they were in school.

The Maitre’ D Josh and the staff at The Palace put on an impressive Cocktail Hour, Dinner, and Venetian Dessert as they always do.  I also had the pleasure of working with Matt the Photographer for the second week in a row, and my personal favorite, my brother Steven as my music mixer.

This New Jersey Wedding Sparkled with Tiffany Blue Elegance

Tiffany blue is a pretty universal and identifying color isn’t it?  It signifies elegance and high quality.  It’s no wonder then that Brenda and John had that as their color scheme.  From the bridesmaids dresses to the centerpieces to the wedding cake, that striking blue color was splashed throughout their reception.

When I first met with Brenda and John to review their plans for their wedding I was very impressed with the music list they handed me.  With about 40 songs on it, they touched on about every genre of music you could think of.  They had some wedding standards (We Are Family and Celebration) some audience participation (Electric Slide and YMCA) some country (Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy and Red Solo Cup) some 80s (Jessie’s Girl and Don’t Stop Believing) some Old School (This Is How We Do it and Still Not A Player) and some new dance music (We Found Love and I Gotta a Feeling).  One of my goals at a wedding is to play a wide range of music in an effort to try to make every guest happy (I know they say you can’t please all the people all the time but you can’t blame a DJ for trying!).  So playing Brenda and John’s requests would accomplish just that.

The reception was held at The Channel Club which is definitely one of my favorite places to work.  The views of the marina are stunning, the food is always great and the staff is as friendly and accommodating as there is in this business (starting with the General Manager Fred who is as nice a guy as you’ll ever meet).  One of the things I love about the Channel Club is they have some shelves over by the bar area and they encourage brides and grooms to bring some family pictures to put on those shelves.  It almost makes it seem like the party is taking place in someone’s private mansion on the inlet.  Not only did Brenda and John bring some photos but apparently John’s family owns a bakery so when it was dessert time they also put out a tray of their very own Italian cookies in that area.  Talk about personalization!

The party itself was very good.  Brenda and John’s family and friends responded well to the music they had selected and the dance floor was packed most of the night.  Brenda and John had also come up with a unique idea that went over well.  As I mentioned they asked me to play Red Solo Cup (which has become a fun little sing-along this year) but they also wanted me to hand out, what else, red solo cups to all the guests.  It was a pretty funny dichotomy to see a room full of formally dressed wedding guests (surrounded by this elegant tiffany blue atmosphere) holding up these red, plastic cups while shouting out the lyrics: “Let’s have a party!”

Brenda and John were heading off to San Diego for their honeymoon.  I couldn’t be happier for them and I wish this wonderful couple a lifetime of elegant tiffany blue moments (with just enough red solo cups to keep it real!)

Army Of Two

Amber and Kevin’s wedding was probably one of the most unique, due to the fact that they are both in the U.S. Army and actually met while deployed in Afghanistan.  When I first spoke to Amber they were stationed in Germany, and my first question was how she decided on picking Breakers in Spring Lake for their Ceremony and Reception, especially being that she was from Texas.  I told her that it was an excellent choice and to be at Breakers in May would be gorgeous and she would be so happy.

I was able to talk them quite a few times as we prepared for their wedding, and was delighted when I was able to actually meet them for the 1st time at their Ceremony.  It was an amazing Saturday, not too hot, blue skies, and of course the beach a stones throw away.

Amber & Kevin’s friends and family were a lot of fun.  They were definitely in the partying mood, and helped make the celebration even better. Another fun surprise was that both of their parents Anniversaries were that weekend, (Kevin’s parent’s was on that day, and Amber’s two days before).  We then had both parents dance for their Anniversaries to: “Watching Airplanes” by Gary Allan and  “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” by Elton John. Some of the requests were: “Your Guardian Angel” by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, “A Thousand Years” – Christina Perri, “Adalida”  by George Strait, “Today Was A Fairytale”  by Taylor Swift.

I was very impressed throughout the afternoon with how down to earth and happy both Kevin and Amber were.  You couldn’t help but being happy for them both and be impressed that while overseas involved in a very difficult situation in a war, they were able to find each other, fall in love, and get married.  I was very happy to be a part of their Wedding day, and hope the best for them both.  Congratulations Amber & Kevin!!

Friday, June 22, 2012 Harriet and Nicholas at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank

Harriet and Nick were super fun to work with. They had lots of ideas and questions, and they really looked for my input to help create a unique structure for the wedding. Living on the other side of the country in California, I used the BrideLive to my advantage during the sales and party planning process and it helped out tremendously. I did have an opportunity to meet with Nick and Harriet one time before the wedding and that’s very important to me as an entertainer.
I know of other companies around the country where the client books the company and they just sends a DJ, whereas I want to meet my brides and grooms. I want to be able to work with them one-on-one to find out what they’re looking for and really build a rapport with them. For me, being able to sit down with Nick and Harriet really meant a lot to me because I got to see the vision they had for their big day.
Nick and Harriet had lots of little things that added to the day. Harriet did three changes throughout the course of the evening. She wore three different dresses and we introduced them into the room to a TI song. they actually dance their first dance to Trey Song’s version of Use Somebody by Kings of Leon. But for me, as a DJ loving music, where I had the most fun was putting their cocktail and dinner mixes together. Harriet and Nick wanted a mix of 90s alternative rock which took me back to my middle school and early high school days. I got to play some great tracks during dinner like Lenny Kravitz “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, “Semi-Charmed Kind of Life” by Third Eye Blind, and “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers. This made me feel nostalgic and brought me back in time. It’s not everyday that you get to put a special touch on somebody’s day that also touches your emotions as well. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to working with more couples like this in the future.

This bride LOVES country music…

It is the tale end of a 4th of July Week/Weekend, and I get to help Sarah & Brian celebrate their Wedding Day at the Neshanic Valley Country Club in Branchburg, NJ.  Sarah loves, loves, loves Country music, and told me she would be dancing to every song, and she did not disappoint.  It turned out to be a gorgeous Sunday which made the panoramic view in the 2nd floor ballroom and the deck over looking the greens even better.

Right after the 1st dance we invited the Bridal Party and then the rest of the guests to dance to: “Rock this Country!” -  Shania Twain which was a fun way to get the party started.

Some of the requests were:

History in the Making” – Darius Rucker

The Day Before You” – Rascal Flatts

Kodachrome” – Paul Simon

Elderly Woman…” – Pearl Jam

Stuck Like Glue” – Sugarland

Wouldn’t it be Nice” – The Beach Boys

I Got You” – Thompson Square

Ring of Fire” – Johnny Cash

God Gave Me You” – Blake Shelton

“Friends in Low Places” – Garth Brooks

Why Don’t We Just Dance” – Josh Turner

We danced to some Classic Oldies:

Runaround Sue” – Dion

Shout” – Otis Day

Twist & Shout” – The Beatles

Mony Mony” – Tommy James

Some Audience Participation:

Cupid Shuffle

Cha-Cha Slide

Conga Line

And Some Newer Songs:

I Gotta Feeling” – Black Eyed Peas

Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen

Party Rock Anthem” – LMFAO

For Dessert the guests were treated to two different types of Wedding Cake and Brian’s favorite Rita’s Ices.  We ended the night on some great Sing-A-Long’s including:

Hail Hail” – Pearl Jam

Aint No Saguaros in Texas” – Reverend Horton Heat

Panama” – Van Halen

I’m A Believer” – The Monkees

Chicken Fried” – Zac Brown Band

Fun Fun Fun” – The Beach Boys

It was a fun Country Music afternoon, and a great way to close out the weekend.  I hope Brian and Sarah enjoy their Honeymoon in the always gorgeous Hawaii!!

Friends + Family = A Win, Win Scenario!

Congrats to Vanessa and Larry on their Wedding!!  I had the unique pleasure of DJing one of my friends weddings.  It is always more fun when you are in a room full of people you know and are already friends with.  I was as excited as most of the guests to see them getting married on this gorgeous Sunday afternoon, especially since we were having the Ceremony (Toto Tasso a very good friend giving the Wedding Talk) and a Beatles inspired Cocktail hour outside at the Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury.

The afternoon/night went very well, we danced, sang, and had a great time.  Roger H. Vanessa grandfather, asked for his customary “Sweet Caroline” – Neil Diamond (which he had asked for at every party I have DJ’d that he is there).  I had some other fun requests, including “Aubrey” – Bread (For Aubrey. D) and “Good Feeling” – Flo Rida for (Toto & Emma).

It was a great day for all who attended and Vanessa & Larry were able to kick off their Marriage with the support of Family and Friends. Congrats once again!!

Double Take! Saturday, June 30th – Lauren & Brett at the Berkeley Plaza

It’s not often when the groom and the best man look exactly alike. They were identical twins and I was lucky the groom wore a white vest so I could tell the two apart. The best man did an amazing job during the toast with a few surprises he mentioned about them growing up that even their parents didn’t know (party at their house when the parents weren’t home) so you can only imagine the hahahaha oh wait, what!!!? that came from there parents table. The bride Lauren could be a DJ. She picked out almost every song and every single one worked for her guests. She didn’t put the songs in any order so I loved being able to put her songs that she wanted in sets to make them work. The smile on her face every time one of her songs came on was priceless.  A big moment in the night was during introductions when I introduced Lauren and Brett into the room with there song they picked Chris Brown’s Yeah 3x.
The guests went crazy and as soon as Lauren and Brett hit the floor I invited all the guests to dance with them during their intro song. I love being able to do that to set the mood of the party early and what a great celebration it was.  My assistant was Steve Louissaint. I would work with him anytime. His brother Marshall is an MC with Elite and if you know Marshall he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and his brother is the same. Steve was on point with the gear and very enthusiastic throughout the entire night. He was on the dance floor as well and the bride loved him. At the end of the wedding the bride Lauren said to me “tell Stevie I said goodbye and great job”.  I love when the Bride and Groom notice how the assistant did a great job.  Oh I did I mention Lauren posted a awesome WeddingWire review only 2 days later!!!!
